“…we can begin by cultivating taste, rather than impoverishing it, by stimulating progress, by encouraging international exchange programs, by endorsing worthwhile projects, by advocating historical food culture and by defending old-fashioned food traditions. Slow Food assures us of a better quality lifestyle.” (Slow Food Manifesto 1989)
30 Years of the Slow Food Manifesto – Our Food, Our Planet, Our Future is a campaign to celebrate our history and look toward our future. Our collective stories offer an opportunity to highlight, reflect upon and celebrate all that we have accomplished over the last three decades around the world, and to reaffirm the importance of continuing to work for the future of food and the planet.
1989 marked the official beginning of the Slow Food movement and the drafting of the Slow Food manifesto. Thirty years later, the movement has evolved into a powerful agent for change in more than 160 countries. Slow Food stands at the intersection of politics and pleasure, climate and culture, people and planet. Millions of people have been touched by thousands of Slow Food projects around the globe. Slow Food has been active across Canada for more than 15 years and we have many home-grown stories to share.
