Messaggio per appassionati di vini / Message for wine lovers
A Message from Slow Food Canada’s Intern Abroad in Italy, Marie!
By/Par Marie Eve Asselin
There was a demand for volunteer work for Slow Food International’s Slow Wine Event: to prepare the wines for blend tasting. In exchange, the possibility to participate in the tasting.
I immediately responded to the call and committed to pass the following 3 weekends to my new mission.
I had the chance to taste a little of all Italian regions, in all colors, varieties and denominations: Barolo, Franciacorta, Vino Santo … the most interesting for me, the smaller appellations of terroir wines made according to tradition by passionate winemakers and the discovery of several indigenous grapes, as Grignolino!
What a beautiful immersion in Italian culture!
After the tasting, the evening festivities! Saturday guests from Puglia brought a prosciutto crudo and fresh mozzarella over to share with the group & friends… and of course, wine!
Thanks to Paolo, my volunteer college student at the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Pollenzo for his patience in the Italian lessons that occupied our free time and the pleasure of sharing the tasting with him.
Perhaps one day we will have a Slow Wine event in Canada!
By/Par Marie Eve Asselin
