Terra Madre 2016: Delegates have been chosen!

May 31, 2016 by

It’s hard to believe that the next edition of Terra Madre Salone del Gusto (TMSdG) is just a few short months away. We’ve now chosen our delegates and are extremely proud of the fantastic group we’ve assembled. Our delegation represents our country from coast to coast to coast (!) and is full of both experience and youth Slow Food members who’ll work together to take our Canadian presence to the next level. We’ve got Slow Meat and Slow Fish delegates, farmers, foragers, cheesemakers, chefs, culinary students, bakers, educators, and community food activists and organizers – all passionate and committed to the ongoing work of Slow Food in Canada. We can’t wait to see what they achieve in Turin! Auguri!

To our delegates: A reminder that the info Elisa Dimichelis from SFI requested in your acceptance emails is due on or before June 15 – please take the time to organize your travel and get that info off to her. She has a virtual tonne of work to complete and needs our entire delegation’s cooperation. If you are past this deadline she cannot guarantee you will be accommodated according to your request. Thanks in advance for your attention to this. Remember to renew any passports expiring within six months of your travel dates!

Shifts: In terms of shifts delegates will be working at the Canada booth, a calendar will come together over the coming months – Kari will be writing to each delegate to help them organize their shifts and ensure equity and fairness across all delegates – please book your Taste Workshops, Wine Seminars, and Cooking Classes now so you’ll know when you’re committed elsewhere.

Other exciting info: a TMSdG 2016 t-shirt and tote bag design is coming together – look for info on that and where to purchase. All proceeds will go to the booth.

Products: Please email Kari directly if you were hoping to have your product sold at the booth and have not been contacted directly by SFI, or if you can already import your product into the EU. There are new and very strict rules this year we’re subject to for importation, and we’re looking for an independent importer (with VAT#) to help us make this happen for everyone who wants the opportunity.

Our Ark of Taste Committee is here to answer questions regarding the requested Ark submissions from the delegation to SFI. We recommend that regional teams work together on submissions to avoid duplication and to share the workload. Please contact Laura Buckley (laurabuckley@rogers.com)with any questions about the Ark, or your submissions. We’re here to help!

Email updates will also be sent to the entire delegation. Please ensure that both kmacknight@hotmail.com and terramadre@slowfood.ca are on your safe list.
